German Korbein-Alt Barn

And the Kings

Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Oklahoma’s Green Country lies a beacon of history and rejuvenation: 1684 Venue | Resort. This extraordinary venture is the brainchild of Colby and Phallyn King, a duo driven by passion, vision, and a deep respect for preserving legacies.

At the heart of our resort stands the Korbein-Alt Barn, a storied structure that once graced the German countryside. Transported across continents and time, this historic marvel now finds its home in the picturesque Cookson Hills of east-central Oklahoma. Here, amidst the rolling terrains of the Boston Mountains—a southern extension of the revered Ozark Plateau—the barn rises, standing testament to both its past and its future.

Our journey, like the timber that forms the very bones of our venue, is steeped in history. It commenced with the unboxing of two storied containers from Germany on a chilly February day in 2020, revealing timbers that bore witness to 338 years of history. The significance wasn't lost on us.

October 21, 2022, marked another pivotal moment—the arrival of the first beams that would soon breathe life back into this historic barn. Guided by the skilled hands of Journeymen, craftsmen who hail from a centuries-old tradition of traveling craftsmen in Europe known for their unparalleled expertise and dedication, a meticulous process unfolded. These Journeymen, with their distinctive approach to craftsmanship, brought an authenticity and depth of knowledge that added immeasurable value to our project.

With a deadline looming and precision at the forefront, they meticulously repaired, fitted, and replaced missing beams, ensuring that the barn would stand tall for generations to come. Their dedication and craftsmanship were not just limited to the barn. The Journeymen, during their tenure, found solace and camaraderie at the 4 Kings Ranch, forging bonds as enduring as the structures they worked on.

Today, 1684 Venue | Resort stands as more than just a venue—it's a testament to the union of history, passion, and vision. Whether you're looking to host an unforgettable event or simply bask in the rich tapestry of our past, we welcome you to be a part of our story.

Blacksmiths created individually hand-shaped forged nails (1780 to 1835) by repeated blows from a special blacksmith's hammer and produced what's now called a “rose head” nail. These nails are traditionally used in framing.

A journeyman is a traditional craftsman who embarks on a years-long journey, often without money or personal belongings, to perfect their skills. Originating from medieval times in Europe, these craftsmen follow a unique code, adhering to strict rules and traditions that date back centuries. The journey, known as the "Wanderschaft," is a rite of passage where these artisans travel from town to town, seeking apprenticeships with masters to learn and refine their craft. During their travels, they wear distinct traditional clothing, often identifiable by specific colors and symbols that represent their trade and journey status. This ancient tradition not only ensures the mastery of skills but also fosters personal growth, resilience, and a deep connection to their craft's heritage. [Learn more]
